What is the Ankara Developmental Screening Inventory?
The Ankara Developmental Screening Inventory is an inventory for the developmental evaluation of children aged 0-6 years. It is implemented by Psychologists working in the field of child mental health.
Children’s language development, mental skills, small-muscle development, large-muscle development, social development and self-care skills are individually examined, observed and scored in monthly periods starting from 0-3 months up to 48-72 months. If possible, this assessment should take place in a setting where parents and child are together.
In addition to the questions posed by the practitioner to the parents, the child is also observed. Step by step, every skill the child has is assessed.
For example, from the child’s ability to use a glass with both hands to the child’s ability to know his/her address, the child’s development in the previously mentioned Language – Cognitive, Small Muscle, Large Muscle, Social – Self-Care skill areas is scored whether it is appropriate for the calendar age and is given to the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Specialist as an evaluation report. The Child-Adolescent Psychiatry Specialist also starts the treatment he/she deems necessary as a result of the test.
WISC-IV consists of subtests of 4 mental skills clusters: verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory and processing speed. The estimated duration of application varies between 90 and 120 minutes, depending on the child’s work rate.
Children who will take the WISC-IV test need to do some things before the test. These include listening, being full and getting a good night’s sleep. Clothes that will be comfortable on the test day should be preferred. It is important to avoid words and behaviors that make the child anxious. It is better not to give the child any information about the test. It is not necessary to give the child any information about the test beforehand. Because the psychologist gives the child the most accurate information.
